Description

School teacher Claire West moved to Nixa and founded the Nixa Hardware in 1898. After around a year he sold the new business in 1899 to F. M. Wasson of Riverdale. In this 1898 photo Mr. West is shown with family and friends. In the back row from left: Mrs. Claire West; a son of Claire West; and Lillie West Stiffler. In the middle are Mr. Claire West with guitar; Artie Mae Stiffler (Masteller); Frank Stiffler with daughter Etta Stiffler in his arms. In front: Mr. West's store clerks Nan Wasson (Goddard) and Laura Tennis (Nokes and then Willoughby).
