Description

One of the most prominent pioneers of Stone County was William Cox who was a brother of Jim Cox. Both lived for many years in the Oto Ridge community on the James River below Hooten Town. Wiliam was the founder and postmaster at Oto Ridge and also a Stone County treasurer, judge, and sheriff. When his first wife died he wed the widow of Joseph Hendrex, Polly in 1887 and lived at Ponce for a time, even running a general store there. He and Polly are shown at the time of their marriage
